new look, same mission
Welcome to our new blog/newsletter for Brave Twin! The blog will have the message and the newsletter will just be the directive to get you there! Are we getting a little fancy?! 😅 We hope you enjoy this new format and will continue to follow our journey!
MISSION - not impossible!
Finding Strength through Faith and Connection…. This is our mission with Braving Widowhood but it fits in everyone’s life too! Staying connected with people who have been “work family” in the past, “church family” past and present, school friends you miss, “organization friends” over the years and your actual family! This is a mission we try to make happen in all of these areas! Maybe it’s a once a month get together, a lunch, a dinner or an event you attend together. If that is hard due to location; phone calls, texts, old fashioned hand written letters, or a simple card can make someone’s day! Paula had an old friend who called her one evening, they had lost touch for several years. She had the beginning stages of dementia and had gone to great lengths to find her cell phone number. They talked for several hours and when she passed Paula treasured that final conversation! Relationships increase your happiness, studies confirm this, so connect with somebody today! Did you know, when you cause happiness for others it comes back to you double! ♥♥
Where are they now?
We’ve been told some of you like to hear about our adventures so we’ll have a section here to share! The most exciting adventure was a last minute/quick trip to Wichita, Kansas for Pam and her son, Tyler! They met 2 of Carl’s siblings, Ernie & Verla and family! Verla’s son is an assistant coach for UNCW and they made it to the 🏀March Madness NCAA tournament🏀 !! Within minutes of the announcement of their location we had hotel rooms and then made plans to attend! UNCW played hard but didn’t get the W. We had all decided we would stay for the next game if they had though! It was SO much FUN! An experience that no one regretted making happen!!

How is your lent going?! Lent is all about transformation. We can decide to fast or make small sacrifices to join in Jesus’ suffering in the desert. We can take steps to grow closer in our relationship with Him by doing a Bible study, and making prayer a priority. Even the smallest efforts are beautiful to God!
Pam is doing a Luke’s Gospel Challenge by reading a Chapter of Luke every day and doing a Lenten devotional called Under the Olive Tree from Blessed is She ministry. By sitting with Jesus under the Olive Tree in the Garden of Gethsemane we understand that He wants us to stay close to Him and whatever we are going through we can trust He will be with us. Olive Trees need to be pruned - we all need to be aware of changes we can make to bring us closer to Jesus.
Paula has given up cream in her coffee! She has also committed to extra time in prayer and will be sharing a Bible study with her church community weekly during Lent.
Whatever we decide to do is a decision to turn towards Him as we prepare to celebrate His resurrection on Easter! May God bless your Lenten plans!
“Faith is what gets you started. Hope is what keeps you going. Love is what brings you to the end.”
Quote of the Month:
This quote is from Mother Angelica, the founder of EWTN Catholic radio/television as well as The Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville, AL. We visited this shrine with a group of BW widows in October!
Let us all find faith, hope and love this Lent!

The Most Amazing Harvest
We spent a couple years traveling the world to write The Most Amazing Harvest – The Man Behind the Story. We dug deep into some of our favorite memories, and waded through the hard ones. We wanted to publish a book that honored the story of this incredible man who sacrificed everything for the people around him.
Carl's story is one of hope about a small town farmer who gained worldwide recognition in the last months of his life as his community came together to harvest the crops Carl was too ill to tend.
The Most Amazing Harvest is an extension of that story, introducing readers to the man behind the headlines and his quiet strength that inspired so many others.
